Oracle RDBMS Connections

dhaynes
An internal IRC discussion happened today about how we should initially connect to Oracle servers for the RDBMS functionality, and the following points were discussed:

OCI vs. thin driver? (Decision: thin)
tnsnames vs hostnames (Decision : hostnames)

Until we have a specific need to use OCI features and/or tnsnames, we will stick with the simpler approach described above, however any comments, feedback, or suggestions are welcome on this topic.

Are we using Datasources from the app server to connect? This is
purely a server configuration choice, right?

Just to remind that this is a public forum, so be careful to mention any internal information (I don't see any problem right now but I thought it would be good to remind in case someone jsut reply using email and didn't notice that this is our nabble forum)

Yes we will be using data sources configured on the server, and created some Puppet classes to handle the setup of these in JBoss.
